Vodafone Launches Cheaper Roaming Plans
Vodafone has recently launched its ‘Passport’ scheme, which allows it to provide a more competitive deal on roaming for its customers. However, working on data would continue to be an expensive affair abroad.
The scheme intends to provide Vodafone’s 2.5 million customers, access to data services on their mobile phones abroad at a sum of £4.99 per day for downloads up to 25MB, which comes to 20p per MB. Every additional 25MB would cost an extra £4.99.
According to their assessment, Vodafone feels that 25MB would suffice for browsing through about 250 internet pages, accessing and replying about 25 emails, use Google Maps to track a restaurant, surf through at least eight news stories on the BBC website, alter profile status on Facebook and see three videos of a duration of 90 second each on YouTube.
For other users who are not likely to engage in large data transfers, Vodafone has provided another scheme for all usage less than 1MB, the charges are on a per kb basis. This would still allow customers to go online and check their emails occasionally while on vacations, which usually translates to usage of just about 100KB, costing around 50p.
For someone who is not interested in mobile phone broadband data usage can also work on his laptop and get a package deal of 50MB for £9.99 in Europe or £29.99 outside
It is also important to note that people who wish to subscribe to Vodafone’s new roaming schemes should be aware that the billing would be with reference to UK timings and the per day data usage would be calculated based on 24 hours from midnight to midnight.
