First, I’m not that desperately cheesball single man, habitually interested in sitting at home without a date on a Friday night. I’d wager readers have never pegged me to write a talk much about great dating and companionship. Not a fan of the drama.

Dependence is an unfortunate trait and intentionally ripped out of my genetics. However, I’ll level with you, I had no choice but to put the breaks on a worthwhile relationship which meant a lot for us but essentially deadended for both of us. So somone could tell ya its been years since I dated. I don’t hold the great expectations Denver I used to enjoy.

Single life has had its perks so far. One thing is for sure, I don’t know how to stay in peacefully watching Two and a Half Men on DVD. The real reason for this bout of incidental dating lameness? This isn’t college, and everyone else is boring.

My former college buddy, Josh, who will never have dating boredom, informed me he’s currently shooting from the same blind as I am. He joinedGreat Expectations Denver. Of course, I can’t argue with introductions with fun singles who share my passions. So I got real about my dating life and signed up.

Here’s the deal, ya can’t grovel about going dateless when ya haven’t even put yourself into the game. As our senior year baseball coach Chris Kniffen told me when his wife wasn’t looking, “You’ll never win a race you don’t run, turbo.”

Coach was crazy, and a little out of touch. But, Coach was truly a wise sould in a round about way. He meant well to everyone. This crazy Dallas matchmaking service I joined might have blown the gipper’s noggin’.

At yesterday’s Great Expectations dating events I talked to some substantive and desirable ladies that hold my interest. I actually had a carefree night with a few intelligently enjoyable singles. Went home with an exchange of digits, and as a plus, I came across some political relationships for my job. Success.

A pathologist takes a small tissue sample from the suspected area and performs an examination that will result in a very accurate diagnosis. Biopsies are generally not painful.

A CT scan (Computer Tomography is an option if you dont want a biopsy. A CT scan is basically an X-ray procedure where cross-sectional images are taken as a scanner rotates around the body. A patient might have to ingest a dye to help define the pictures. CT scans have an advantage over biopsies by being easier and non-invasive, and they are known to be an effective diagnostic tool. Opinions vary whether a CT scan or biopsy is cheaper. If irregularities are detected, a biopsy may also be needed to know if the abnormality is a tumor, and if thats the case, if its malignant or benign. It is also possible to diagnose pleural mesothelioma by testing a sample of fluid from the pleura for cancer cells.

These methods can also diagnose and screen patients for mesothelioma. Patients who may think they are at risk but do not display any symptoms are typically screened, to make sure they are not in danger or to catch the cancer as early as possible. People who need to be screened include those with a history of asbestos exposure..

Murray Provan, an Inspector with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), has warned construction companies against neglecting safety measures for their employees, especially those working at heights. The warning comes after the successful prosecution of one of the directors of a Scottish construction company, along with the company itself, for lapses in the maintenance of its health and safety standards, leading to the death of one of its employees.

In the second prosecution of its kind in the last six years, where a director of a company was prosecuted for failure to ensure safety standards, the director pleaded guilty to the breach and was fined for the same. The employee, Andrezej Freitag, reportedly fell from a three metre high exhaust shaft and suffered grievous injuries, to which he later succumbed.

The incident is said to have taken place because safety standards were not complied with at the block where construction was underway, as there was no barrier at the edge of the shaft. Pursuant to the decision of the Dundee Sheriff Court, the company, Discovery Homes (Scotland) Limited was punished with a fine of £5,000 for breach of provisions of Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

In addition to this, Mr Richard Lionel John Pratt, a director as well as site manager of the company, was fined to the tune of £4,000 after admitting his breach of Section 37(1) of the said Act, as he was responsible for managing the health and safety of the employees and the death was a result of his neglect of his duties. The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations require all employers to carry out an assessment of risk by a competent person, click on risk assessment training to ensure your organisation meets its basic commitments to providing a safe work environment for your staff.

According to Provan, the accident was caused primarily due to the negligence of the employer and the site manager. It could have been prevented had the provisions of the Act been complied with, but unfortunately, Pratt made use of barriers that were not suitable for work at heights.

A few weeks back, we were swamped with a upsurge of queries from primary schools with regards to our drinking water fountains. The first query was from a schoolhouse in Lincoln who are looking to be able to provide drinking water for all pupils in each schoolroom. The Victorian primary school was waiting to replace old sinks in each schoolroom with a simple wall mounted fountain sink. This simple unit has little proportions and merely has a bubbler for children to drink from. With wall mounted sinks the drinking water comes straight from the mains supply, is filtered through a water filter if necessary and comes out of the bubbler when a plain knob is pressed. The basicshape of wall mounted sink is lacking a chilling unit and hence the water comes out of the bubbler at mains water temperature. The second enquiry was for an outdoor freestanding water fountain for the heart of a childrens leisure area. There are a lot of fountains built in the UK that are suitable for higher usage outward surrounds. We managed to root out three special fountains that suited the remit including one that has been especially prepared for a primary school where the drinking area is at 800mm rather than the 1 metre suited to adults.

Many school districts now require homeschoolers to present portfolios showing their student’s progress in an organized fashion. This is actually a very convenient method of recording whenever it is done properly. Here are some ideas on how to create, maintain, and present your homeschool portfolio for a successful assessment, evaluation and review.

First of all, it is important to have a firm grasp on precisely what a homeschool portfolio is. Basically, a homeschool portfolio is a collection of materials that are used in order to showcase what your child has learned over the course of the “school year.” This is important because numerous states require an annual assessment of homeschooled students either via testing or the presentation of a portfolio. While it may seem that keeping a portfolio is only good in so far as you need to comply with the law. This is not the case however. Portfolios can also help parents and their children to record their progress and achievements. This becomes even more important once a child has reached high school and needs a diploma.

Now that we understand the importance of a portfolio, it is also important to understand that there is no right or wrong way in which to create a portfolio. It is up to the parent and/or child what materials the portfolio will contain. However, it is a good idea to choose a variety of material in order to reflect what the child has learned, experienced and accomplished throughout the year. Some items that should be included in your portfolio are: Suggested items to include are:

(1.) A journal which contains notes about activities and the progress that has been made.

(2.) A list of resources (ie books, computer software, games, toys and outside classes).

(3.) Samples of the child’s work (ie samples of creative writing and drawings, text book or workbook pages, and if possible you may include audio or video tapes of your child singing, playing a musical instrument, reading aloud, or taking part in a a dramatic performance - pictures will also sometimes work well in place of audio or video tapes).

(4.) Photos of field trips, artwork, projects and family life.

(5.) Brochures and booklets from field trips and other activities.

(6.) A list of books that the child has read including both the title and the author.

(7.) A list of your goals for the year.

While this may seem quite overwhelming, you’d honestly be surprised at how easily you can accomplish this when you start preparing your portfolio at the beginning of the year. Simply use a three ring binder and add paper for your journaling. Start off by listing a few of your goals for the year and what resources you’ll be using to achieve those goals (these can be modified throughout the year as needed). Then begin collecting samples of work, organizing them by subject, and punching holes in them to place them in your binder. Always have at least a throw away camera at hand so that you can take pictures of anything that you’d like that your child does (ie reading, playing, dancing). You’ll also want to take pictures at field trips as well as pictures of your child’s projects and creations. These pictures can either be placed in a photo album or if you’re feeling really craftsy you could organize them into a scrapbook. You’ll also want to make sure to hold onto any brochures or other paper items that you collect while on an educational outing. These can be easily placed in clear see-through sheet protectors. This is also a good time to begin accumulating a list of books that are being read.

Once you have put together the beginnings of your portfolio, don’t stop there. Regular maintenance (I suggest weekly as it will help you to write your lesson plans for the following week) should include regular journal entries and an ongoing collection of work samples, photos and whatever else you wish to include. Some school districts will require a quarterly assessment throughout your homeschool year. This is a time for parents and children to reflect upon their progress and accomplishments from the previous months. Yet, even if your school district doesn’t require a quarterly review, you won’t want to wait until the end of the year to scramble and race to put together a portfolio that your school district will approve of. Neither you nor your child deserve having to go through the unneeded stress of having to sort through all of the material that has been collected throughout the year.

When it is time for review you may choose to remove some of the materials from your portfolio. You will find that some of these things simply do not properly reflect what you’ve accomplished throughout the year. If/when you decide to weed through your portfolio, you need to remember that the purpose of the review is to provide a general overview of the homeschool year, demonstrate that the child is engaged in homeschooling and that progress is being made.

The portfolio review can be exciting since it provides both parents and children with a time to talk about what they’ve been doing at home. When discussing this with your child, you may find it helpful to write down a summary of the items that you wish to highlight during your year before the review. For instance, if your child learned to read or master a skill you may wish to point this out to the reviewer. Of course, you should never view your portfolio review as a time for you to be judged or ridiculed. It is a time to listen, learn and support from your reviewer. Your child does not need to be present during this time. However, if your child wants a chance to “brag” about their accomplishments and progress to other homeschoolers, then this review is a perfect opportunity for them to do so.

Yesterday, I got stuck in a traffic jam. It wasn’t the first time and unfortunately won’t be the last time! 5 miles of bright beaming red tail lights flickering in my eyes. Just the thought of it makes me kind of nauseas. Especially, when all I was trying to do was go to the grocery store to pick up a gallon of milk!

I’ve noticed my offline experiences sometimes mimic my online experiences. You see, the internet offers us the opportunity to travel in millions of different directions. Yet, many times we get stuck in an internet traffic jam………

A super information highway with people going in several different directions. However, many times those directions lead to a crash. Yes, it sounds crazy but it’s absolutely true! When I first became an internet marketer, I tried several different methods to generate traffic to my sites. Here were a couple of methods that I implemented:

• FFA Pages

• Safelists

Please note that I am only expressing my opinions and experiences below:

FFA-Free For All pages are sites with links to several other sites. The object is to list your site to these pages which will bring traffic to your site and increase your popularity in the search engines. Generally, it’s just a plain web page with little links to several other sites. You are lured into thinking that you’re going to direct people to your site and become popular. Well, not so fast my friend!

The people who run these sites ask you to register by entering your email address. This way they are able to personally market to you over and over again. I’m not saying that people haven’t had success with FFA pages but it can definitely be a difficult task.

While you get to list a link to your site with a little blurb, these sites are so popular that you often get pushed right off the page in a short amount of time! Plus, I noticed that most people don’t take the time to look at a page with thousands of little links on it anyway!

It’s kind of like being in your car in a traffic jam on a beautiful day. The sun is out, and the flowers are in full bloom, but all you see are the tail lights right in front of you!

My experiences with safelists are similar to FFA pages. Safelists are email advertisements. The only reason they are “safe” is because the people who join them agree that in order to send out information about their product or program they must also accept email from other members of the safelist.

This leads to several thousand emails flooding into your inbox on a daily basis! Once again, I found myself in an internet traffic jam! All I wanted to do was show people my products and site, not just hope and wish that they would open my email or click on my links.

Now, I avoid the internet traffic jam, by steering clear of FFA pages and Safelists.
